Comment: Pressure builds for best practice

To accelerate the shift towards diverting all organic material from landfill by 2020, landfill taxes are expected to escalate from a gate fee of around £7 per tonne in 1997 to £100 per tonne by 2013. With local authorities under pressure to divert organic material from landfill, innovative new technologies suddenly become an economically viable option.
