Domestic wind turbine siting protects bat colonies

The erection of a 5kw wind turbine at a dwelling in Essex was approved, a council's objection on the anticipated impact on protected bats being overruled by an inspector who held that a condition preventing the planting of hedges or trees within 50 metres of the structure would ensure that the animals were not placed at undue risk.
