Editorial: Top company merger moves ahead under spotlight's glare

The news that Tarmac and Lafarge UK are planning to combine operations in a 50:50 joint venture brings to an end Anglo's attempts to sell off Tarmac. The union, if agreed, would usher in an aggregates-based marriage that last year could have raised around £1.8 billion in revenue and placed 7,300 UK employees under its wing.
