Dr Gemma Cranston
Gemma is the Director for Natural Capital at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL). She leads the Natural Capital Impact Group, which brings together influential companies with a global reach to determine how business can sustain the natural world and its resources through their strategies and operating practices. She leads a team focusing upon business led projects on soil, water and biodiversity, including how to measure their impacts and mitigate risks. She is involved in a collaborative project assessing pollinator deficit for key commodities and analysing the risks and strategies for companies to respond. Gemma led the pilot testing of the Natural Capital Protocol with over 50 businesses and is further supporting the Natural Capital Coalition in engaging with businesses to apply natural capital approaches. She was involved in the ESRC funded Nexus Network with the ongoing engagement of companies around nexus themes (food, energy, water, environment) particularly on an innovative project ‘Nexus2020’.
