Opencast coal extraction complies with national policy, inspector decides

An inspector has held that the extraction of 514,000 tonnes of coal and 83,000 tonnes of fireclay from a site in County Durham was supported by national policy even though it would have a significant adverse impact on the landscape in the medium term.
