Permission granted for new surface coal mine in Northumberland

An application for the extraction of 130,000 tonnes of coal by surface mining on 30ha of land at Well Hill Farm, Stannington, Northumberland, has been approved after a debate over highway safety and the amenity impact on residential properties.
